Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola

In darkness, we united. In darkness everybody was one. Every eye was on the screen, all the lips were apart, mesmerized. A single thought was conveyed, a single thought was spread. And when we came out, a single question, by everyone, was asked-

Da Fuq did we just watch!?

Now before giving the review of the movie let me confess that I personally couldn't have enjoyed the movie more. I loved it. However, if your sense of humor is not as demented as mine is, and if you are not drunk while watching it, you are probably going to hate the film. A normal person’s reaction of watching a film would be something like this-

ICC T20 2012 - 18th September- SL vs ZIM Match Analysis

Image Courtsey - http://www.iccworldtwenty20.com/
The result of the inaugural match of the T20 World Cup, 2012 between hosts Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe panned out just the way the majority of the cricketing fraternity and fans would have anticipated. It was a clear-cut victory for Sri Lanka, riding on a strong performance with both bat and ball. What they wouldn’t have expected though, was that Sri Lanka would steamroll, flatten and annihilate Zimbabwe to an 82-run loss. It was all one way traffic since the start of the match, apart from a phase of a couple of overs where the Zimbabwean bowlers took 2 wickets in rapid succession.

YOGOs Yogurt At Lokhandwala

A perfect place to hangout in the morning, during college hours, after lunch, on a date and in the night after dinner. Yogo's serves perfect fronzen yogurts.

We visited its first branch in Lokhandwala, Andheri (w) and asked them to hit us with their best. As expected, they served a blueberry cheesecake loaded with toppings. The cheesecake was delicious, we even asked for a plain strawberry froyo. The deserts were soft, smooth and sweet.

KC College Screams For 'The Rise'

Kiran is one of the most awaited college fest of Mumbai. The students of Kishinchand Chellaram College at Churchgate are all set to redefine the meaning of the words-revolt, rebel and rise, redefining the term 'Revolutionaries'.  This year, Kiran 2012, launches itself on 31st August with the theme  'The Rise'. The events schedule is given below:

Short Film Event. ''Rise; Yesterday and Today"
The event is totally based on the contingent the college gets. Every contingent bears the Freedom fighter/ political leader/ Revolutionary. So according to that person, the contingent has to derive one outstanding quality the person had, and show how is that quality relevant in today's world. For example if a contingent gets their name as Mahatma Gandhi, then they have to make a 3-5 min short film depicting how is Gandhiji's non-violence quality work in today's time?
1st Sept. 11.20-1.30 pm

Ice Age 4 : Continental Drift

Sequels are a common phenomenon with Hollywood film makers. Though fourth part of the Ice Age is a sequel, you will enjoy the film even though if you have not watched the previous flicks. After three top-of-the-ladder and blockbuster parts, this new launch from the same store does manage to keep its fans happy and entertained. The basic plot the movie is a tried-and-tested formula of family relationships, affection, comradeship, deception, and finally an exciting re-union.

The story continues after mammoth Manny and Ellie’s daughter Peaches is all grown up and wants to experience her teenage just like any other youth. Peaches has a crush on Ethan, but Manny doesn’t approve of her relationship.

Just like always, on the parallel line, there runs a
caper and jocular, the goofiest character of the trilogy series – Scart (a saber-toothed squirrel).Interestingly, Scrat, unknowingly unleashes a natural acrimony,  which leads to the crackup, of the Pangaea landmass due to which Manny, along with his herd of Diego, Sid and Sid’s granny is separated from Ellie and Peaches.

Cocktail- Fully Fizzled Up

Courtesy- Eros International Media Ltd, Illuminati Films
Over the decades, our film fraternity has revolutionised. The result is that directors are portraying the same conventional themes, in a new way. Cocktail is one such example; A romantic comedy comprising of a love’s triangle.  However, the dark, tardy confusion usually clinged to the love triangles, are only brushed through in this film.

The film starts by a scene of the flirt, womanizer, Gautam (Saif Ali Khan) flirting with arbitrary women. Then, the gullible, naive, traditional Indian girl, Meera (Diana Penty) is introduced. Lastly comes the reckless, ever so effervescent, party animal Veronica (Deepika Padukone). Veronica and Gautam become “friends with benefits”. The “awesome threesome”, as Deepika says in one of her dialogues, party on beaches, hang out at diners and even start living together. All’s going well until Gautam’s mother decides to give a surprise visit. Only to walk up on her son dancing in a negligee with a slutty make up. Further, Gautam, not wanting to give his mom an early attack by introducing her to the party animal Veronica, conveniently introduces Meera as his prospective wife, to avoid the arranged marriage scenario. What follows is a love triangle complication.

New Stuff--The Comedy Outburst

Celebrating its second anniversary in Mumbai; The Comedy Store has great to offer and it’s the only such theatre and concept in Mumbai which only caters adult comedy. The Comedy Store has been a stage for world class comedians in London and Manchester and it’s a borrowed concept from the UK. A visit to it is a must if you have a funny bone and would like to experience or a fan of standup comedy. At first they make you feel comfortable and nice with their bar and diner, then they make you laugh with one-liners and punches .They would joke on all issues ranging from sex and politics to religion, college and Olympics! Now, as the jokes were all equally hilarious, we judged the comics on other parameters.

The show we went for was titled “New Stuff” and it promised to showcase new jokes and talent. We were served by seven comedians at the price of Rs.150. It all started with the host Neville Shah, he introduced himself as a half Parsi-half Gujju comedian. He made the people roll on the floor laughing and was the best as he was the host. He got off
Neville Shah
(Neville Shah)
the stage, interacted with the audience and humiliated them!. That always works doesn’t it?
One of the people who constantly got insulted by every comedian was one of our own colleagues and also the editor of all the posts you see on this blog  so I won’t be surprised if any line vanishes in “the interest of making the post better”
( Neville Shah, if you are reading this, he was the IT engineer whom you caught hold of ). Actually, he had already planned to sit on the first row and make himself the target! The comedians were not aware that the persons whom they were cracking jokes would be grading them! Here is a tip for you; If you care a lot of your image and do get offended from highly insulting lines on you/your partner, dare not sit in the front rows!

Bol Bachchan - Keep Your Brains at Home

(Image Courtesy - Ajay Devgn Ffilms)
The human body is gifted with mind; the mind, is gifted with logic and logic, is gifted with reasoning. Rohit Shetty chooses to disapprove all three! Bol Bachchan is a brainless humour at its epitome.

The movie is a remake of the old “Golmaal”. The plot is the usual, one man, two names. Abhishek Bachchan plays Abbas Ali and also his alter ego, Abhishek Bachchan. Yes, thats his name in the film. He does this to escape the wrath of Prithviraj Raghuvanshi (Ajay Devgn) who practically is the leader of the village.

The plot and the story, like most of Rohit Shetty’s films, are negligible! The humour is outstanding and even the haters of brainless humour will find it difficult to hold their laughter, especially in the first part. The cast includes debutant Krushna Abhishek who has done a commendable work and this film will definitely give a boost to his bollywood career. The music by Himesh Reshamiya and Ajay-Atul is mediocre. The editing and the background soundscore, again, remind you of south movies. Abhishek Bachchan actually does a brilliant job. His “Bharatnatyam-gay” dance in the film is definitely the highlight. Ajay Devgn, being Ajay Devgn, stands out throughout the film. He displays very high energy and charisma. The actions superb and well organised. It’s a typical Rohit Shetty film, with usual humour, flying cars and flying human bodies.

Sappe Aloe Vera Review

Re-doing a famous dialogue from a Bollywood film, we came up with something that would clearly describe the people who would like to take this drink... "Ye world hai na world, isme do tarah ke log hote hai. Ek joh drink mai healthiness prefer karte hai, dusre jo taste prefer karte hai" (In this world, 2 types of people exist; one who prefer healthiness in their drinks, other who prefer taste.) Sappe’s Aloe Vera drink will appeal more to the former!

The taste is not so bad. It comes in four flavours; Apple, Lime, White-Grape and Peach. From which the lime and the apple flavour particularly are refreshing and tasty! The other flavours might not particularly please your taste buds as such. The juice will appeal to you if you are searching for something new against the usual juices. The taste is slightly minty, sweet and salty together. We highly recommend drinking it chilled.

The Amazing Spiderman--Amazing, Indeed!

The other day I was seeing an advertisement. A man, in a foreign country, having a foreign language craves for chicken. He enters a restaurant named "chi-can" with chicken pictures everywhere and naturally expects some exquisite chicken. He ends up eating a cooked dog. Viewing The Amazing Spiderman, is more or less the same. The name, gives a picture of a hardcore action-thriller super hero movie. It really is a story of a boy who acquires powers and a villain who acquires mutation; portrayed more realistically than we would want a super hero movie to be.

The story is of a teenager college boy trying to find out the truth about his father’s disappearance. In the process, he gets bitten by a radioactive spider and gets some unique powers. He then uses them for the good of mankind. Sounds similar? It is! The villain, this time is a giant lizard. He falsely believes that he can create a world without weakness by turning everyone into giant lizards too, through mutation as it gives more strength.

The only difference in the story is that everything is attempted to be portrayed a slight more realistically. The USP (Unique Selling Point) of any super hero- action movie is the protagonist’s feverous struggle against the villain. The film lacks that. But where the film doesn’t quite do enough in action, it does more than enough in the screenplay, cinematography and direction. The dialogues didn't match up to the wonderful ones from the earlier parts.

USA -- Under Skirt Activities

USA, is the undisputed reigning monarch of the world. It controls most of the international organizations, some directly, some indirectly. The United States is the epicenter of trade, commerce, finance. It is the epicenter of power! It is also the most dreaded country on earth. Wondering why? Here are three of the several answers.

What exactly happened on 9/11
  • 9/11 is considered as an epoch making incident in whole of America. What we know about 9/11 is that Osama Bin Laden and his accomplices hijacked some passenger planes and crashed them into the world trade centre, bringing it down. What we don’t know is that a controversy follows this incident...
  • The core of the WTC (World Trade Centre) was hard columns tightly grouped columns of solid steel! The structure was so hard, that the planes couldn’t even

The Great ''Quota'' System -- Part 2

Please read the Part-1 here.
As one article was not enough to criticize it enough so we had to come up with one more.

India got independence in 1947 and the constitution was formed by 26th November 1949. No, we haven’t forgotten what I am writing about. Our  point is that when the constitution was adopted, the quota for SC\ST\OBC was adopted for a period of five years. After which it was to be reviewed. However, the term conveniently kept being stretched till now; which is 63 years. With all due respect to our  backward classes’ friends, when you were expected to grow enough to handle your own expenses in 5 years, you haven’t been able to do the same in 63 years?

Also, another loop hole in this system is that if your grandparents belonged from backward class, you will get the certificate! Not considering the fact that you very well could have, and may have grown in the following years. Many people we know, owning blackberries and other high-tech cell phones, big cars, et al have authentic “backward classes’’ certificate.

Tedhi-Medhi Kahani

(Courtesy- Kunal Kohli Productions)
Teri Meri kahaani gives us a very interesting star cast with Shahid kapoor and Priyanka Chopra. Alas! It does nothing to mitigate this disaster. Or shall we say, disasters? The story is basically of similar love stories spanned over three generations.

After the classic “love story” start and classic “love story” dialogue we see a 1960’s set. Govind(Shahid Kapoor) a wannabe musician in pursuit of stardom is travelling to Mumbai and conveniently bumps into a film star Rukhsar (Priyanka Chopra). Then a love story full of complications, songs and drama  starts. The same is repeated in the 2012 and 1910 era.

One of the disturbing things about the movie is that there is no narration or thread what so ever to tie these three stories together. We just go from 1960 to 2012 to 1910 without any reasonable explanation! Apologies as we am not revealing much of the plot because there is hardly any. We don’t want to reveal the little twists because they might make the movie watchable for you, and we don’t want to run it more!

The Great ''Quota'' System

One of the most harrowing phase of our lives, the college admission process, is finally over for most of us. I think we all unanimously agree that the most annoying element in this process was the quota system. Yes, I know that there are people who got in solely on the bases of quota, which saved them from a very grave crisis.

As we all know, reservation is on the bases of religion, domicile, castes and also for freedom fighters’ descendants. It’s amply evident that today, if you don’t belong to a religion, cast or domicile having a quota, you will not be able to pursue your dream career from your dream college. Unless, you are a scholar who gets sky high marks, which, most of us aren't.

A Sweet "Sawaari"

Courtesy- Vinod Chopra films
Vidhu Vinod Chopra didn’t provide us with too exciting trailers. One could figure that the purpose of the trailers was not to entertain but to set the plot of the film. And he succeeds.

The films starts by introducing us the simpleton, sweeter than honey, Rustom Deboo (Sharman Joshi) and his quintessential son Kayoze Deboo (Ritvik Sahore). Rustom is a Gandhian even in this 'ghor' kalyug, thus is distinct from others.

Rustom’s father, Boman Irani, a grumpy, embittered grandfather with an unkept beard and an old man’s slouch is introduced. Kayoze, plays outstanding cricket and is believed to be destined for the Indian team. But he needs to pay exorbitantly high fees to get in a training camp conducted in lords stadium, london.

Shanghai: Another Political Thriller

A hard hitting Indian political thriller; which is perfectly made. The screenplay and production down to the characterization, everything is impeccable! Shanghai is an offbeat movie, beyond entertatainment.

The story is set in an Indian city of Bharat Nagar, which is riddled with riots and politics. A socialite and a teacher, Ahmedi (Prosenjit Chatterjee), is protesting against the development plan of a MNC in coalition with the government; which will cause many poor people to lose their lands. He faces harsh reactions from some of the villagers who are under the spell of the government. He is ultimately run down by a truck in a conspicuous accident.
