Ice Age 4 : Continental Drift

Sequels are a common phenomenon with Hollywood film makers. Though fourth part of the Ice Age is a sequel, you will enjoy the film even though if you have not watched the previous flicks. After three top-of-the-ladder and blockbuster parts, this new launch from the same store does manage to keep its fans happy and entertained. The basic plot the movie is a tried-and-tested formula of family relationships, affection, comradeship, deception, and finally an exciting re-union.

The story continues after mammoth Manny and Ellie’s daughter Peaches is all grown up and wants to experience her teenage just like any other youth. Peaches has a crush on Ethan, but Manny doesn’t approve of her relationship.

Just like always, on the parallel line, there runs a
caper and jocular, the goofiest character of the trilogy series – Scart (a saber-toothed squirrel).Interestingly, Scrat, unknowingly unleashes a natural acrimony,  which leads to the crackup, of the Pangaea landmass due to which Manny, along with his herd of Diego, Sid and Sid’s granny is separated from Ellie and Peaches.

As Manny and Co. get drifted even further from his family on an ice block, they survive storms, splashes and the curses of the waves. There enters a new character - the monkey pirate Captain Gutt who is self-proclaimed himself  to be the master of the sea and who with crew, try to capture and prison Manny and his herd. Love matures between Diego and Shira, a female pirate tiger. The end, as usual is a happy-endings, the family reunites and Diego has found love.

Ice Age 4 may be not as strong on the story-line but is surely interesting to watch. It is surely to be checked-out and can serve well as a Sunday family outing.  The characters of ‘Ice Age’ are the ones who bring in the thrill factor. Their lark and style mixed with a  perfect blend of creative and detailed animation which director Steve Martino has put into effect in this new 3D venture, makes ‘Ice Age: Continental Drift’ a classic to enjoy with families. Do watch out for Sid’s granny and her pet whale!
